Hercules was not exactly the guy I always thought he was. What does this story say about the Ancient Greeks? He killed his entire family, is this guy a hero?? Be sure you explain what you think.
he had plenty of time to redeem himself. he didnt neccesarly 'killed' his family he was tricked into a wild rage by his so called 'wife' Hera. that was what she really wanted. ancient greeks are willing to forgive anybody for any matter.
the story is basically saying how very much different the cartoon is compared to the actually stories. NO!!! he is not a hero an the life he lead but wen meaning people changed the story around and made him said gud that made manyin think that he is a strong hero.
Athenian 102-Great point about the Greeks and their willingness to forgive. But a question about him "not really killing his family". They are dead arent they? So if I became very angry and killed someone, it would be the fault of my anger? Or me?
Lee, I too was angry when I read this the first time and realized that he was not the guy I thought he was--but, like many real people, he mistakes. Shouldnt people have a second chance?
I agree with Lee and im going to say that Hercues is not a hero he pretty much bought his way into Mt. Olympus all he had to do was 12 tasks. which i don't know how they are hard for him because he is really strong, so that realyl doesn't make any sense what so ever. if you kill your family you shouldn't be able to become a god in Mt. Olympus!
I grew up think he was a hero,in the cartoon they make him look like such a hero. I feel that he did redeem him self,he did every thing he was told to. He did not want to kill his family, he was forceds in to doing it,you can say he was brain washed.
it says that the ancient greeks only take the good things of what a hero did and not include the bad things in it so that it wouldnt make them look bad. i still dont think he is a hero because the fact that he killed his family doesnt make him one. also, during the time when he was trying to redeem himself he was cheating and doing other things to be bogus to other people.
That they believe many things are possible. In we never know it might have been right for him to kill his whole entire family for their own good in for his own good.
In a way he was sort of was like a hero but not the Disney version everyone believes. He did do great things that no one eles could do but the ways he was doing some of them was like he was cheating.
Minos--thats an excellent point. What do the rest of you think? ancient greeks only take the good things of what a hero did and not include the bad things--Don't we do the same? Superman killed the "villans", so is he considered a hero still? He was a murderer!!
How about how he died?? Any thoughts on how he died? Would you burn your friend alive if they asked you to? After all that...a woman killed him by accident. Doesnt that seem a bit ridiculous?
it wasnt his intention to kill them "however, things were to be different. Hera took a vow to irritate Hercules during his lifetime. She tricked Hercules into a wild rage. In his rage, the mortal god Hecules killed his family. This was exactly what Hera wanted!". HE WAS TRICKED.!!!! It will be your fault. You could've controlled your anger and tried for it not to get that far.
@Athena E: I Guess.. well in my point of view disney really can't do anything about it, it is a children's movie. i don't think they would be able to add him killing his family in the movie
i still think that superman is a hero because he risked his own life the save other people and what hercules did was just so that he can redeem himself.
In the cartoon they made it so that we wouold think he was killing all those monsters to be a hero, but in fact he was doing all that to redeem him self. The movie just twiste up every thing so that he looks like the Hero.
man the story really isn't to different from the cartoon that dont come on anymore. it's just i dont get how hercules is suppost to be a hero, but i can see how the greek society works they do believe in giving second chances at immortality.
i would have to agree that greeks only look at the good things i noyiced that from the readings like zues who had affairs with a ton of women even the godeses were i think? he raped one of them
I agree Achilles, the greeks just foces on all the good they have done&just push the bad aside. I think that the greeks just dont want to be judged bases on there mistakes.
@Ms Hughes: well Hercules didn't die. he was going to but the greek gods realized that he had went through a lot so they decide to send him into Mt. Olympus which really doesn't make sense to me. if your going to send one man into Mt. Olympus for doing 12 tasks might as well have every other man do 12 tasks to let them into Mt. Olympus as well.
I think the Greeks took the stories and only took the good parts about them because they couldnt face the fact that these "Gods" they believed in so much were just like them.
i think he isnot a hero because he killed his family and even though he was forced to kill his family but i think eveyone deserves a second chance because it wasnt his fault but i dont think nonone should be forced to kill there own family
I don't think that superman can count cause he killed people that were trying to kill other,so really Hercules was doing all this on his own, with his own knowledge. Being mad cause someone was getting on your nervous and killing all of your family. you should b severely punished.
@Athena E: They do it just to create a movie for kids to make him look like any other typical hero that kills a monster gets the girl and everything else that happens in a superhero movie.
No,no body wants to be judged for there mistakes. Now that i think about it,i feel that what the greeks did were no mistakes to them,i think that they understud what they were doing, but they just didnt want to stop what they were doing,so when they did get cought they claimed they were "Mistakes",they were god&goddesse, they new they could get away with what ever they wanted and people would still look up to them
i have a question if hera was a god why she didnt forgive hercules? since she didnt do this show that all of the gods were symbols of twisted evilness?
he had plenty of time to redeem himself. he didnt neccesarly 'killed' his family he was tricked into a wild rage by his so called 'wife' Hera. that was what she really wanted.

ReplyDeletewell no because its not that he is a murderer,he killed the people who was hurting the comminuty and he was the hero that saved them
ReplyDeleteit wasnt his intention to kill them "however, things were to be different. Hera took a vow to irritate Hercules during his lifetime. She tricked Hercules into a wild rage. In his rage, the mortal god Hecules killed his family. This was exactly what Hera wanted!". HE WAS TRICKED.!!!!

ReplyDeleteiammortal: then Why should they even be telling his story if all they are gonna do is lie?
ReplyDelete@minos:i agree also
ReplyDeletebut never thought hercules would kill his parents maybe from what i pictured him in the disney movie
ReplyDeleteKeyshaun--Why do you think he was granted immortality?
ReplyDeleteARIADNE-So, it's ok for me to ignore the law and just kill people if I think they are "bad"?
Achilles: What does that say about what they think is "bad"?
ReplyDeleteI agree Achilles, the greeks just foces on all the good they have done&just push the bad aside. I think that the greeks just dont want to be judged bases on there mistakes.

ReplyDeleteI don't think that superman can count cause he killed people that were trying to kill other,so really Hercules was doing all this on his own, with his own knowledge. Being mad cause someone was getting on your nervous and killing all of your family. you should b severely punished.

ReplyDeletei thinks it says that if they accomplish nothing and are not viewed as heros then their looked up as a bad person/god
ReplyDeleteAte2010: Does ANYONE want to be judged on their mistakes? I know I dont!!
ReplyDeletehow did we get from Hercules to Batman and Superman?
ReplyDeleteyour right Ate2010 they do cOver their mistakes big TIME..!
ReplyDelete@ms.hughes:well no becace its ah mistake in the judge have made many so why cant we
ReplyDeleteNo,no body wants to be judged for there mistakes. ReplyDeleteiammortal i was thinking the same thing confusing why not throw some spiderman in there why we at it
ReplyDelete@Keyshaun: HAHA! I was just going to say something like that.
ReplyDeleteno he most def. not a hero who kills others for an unfair reason y wudnt he kill hiself?
ReplyDeletethen again he is a hero because he did things that was impossible for any other mortal
ReplyDeletei have a question if hera was a god why she didnt forgive hercules? since she didnt do this show that all of the gods were symbols of twisted evilness?
