The Myth of Icarus

1. What do you think we are supposed to learn from Icarus?
2. Man, rough break for this kid. Did he deserve what he got?
3. Which character are you in this story? Why?

  1. I think what we were suposse to learn was that Icarus was just like any other young man.

  2. Athena, good point. How do you figure? What makes him so much like "any other young man"?

  3. *WELL I CNT LEARN ANYTHING FROM ICARUS BECAUSE IM NOT GOING TO DO ANYTHNING THAT CRAZY THAT HE DID SO THAT I CAN KILL MYSELF.
*YES HE TOLD HIM NOT TO FLY TO CLOSE TO THE SUN OR THE WAX IS GOING TO MELT AND HE TOLD HIM NOT TO FLY TO LOW CAUSE THE WINGS MIGHT GET WET.
*ARIADNE-I DNT KNOW I JUST CHOSE HER

  4. 1.what i think where supposed to learn is to what is told of you to do

2.i think he deserved what he got because he didn't listen to his father.

    3. i think i am icarus because i never really pay close attention

  5. MS.HUGHES-WELL BECAUSE EVERY YOUNG BOY TRYS TO EXPRIMENT THINGS IN THATS WHAT HE WANTED TO DO.

  6. He was overwhelmed at the fact that he was flying that he didn't pay attention to what his father had told him. Point being why he was like "any other young man" He didn't listen.

  7. I agree with Athena E. Every young man does whatever he thinks is right. At this point he thought that his fathers warning was nearly as important and chosed to fly close to the sun. Which took his life away.

  8. Something I think Im suppose to learn from Icarus is not to be disobediant. I think this because, disobediance comes with a consequence sooner or later and Icarus eventually had to learn the hard way which resulted in him loosing his life. In response to the second question, I kind of think mabey he deserved his punishment. Reason being is because his father (DAEDALUS)gave him very simple and specific rules on what not to do. In the myth of Daedalus And Icarus, I think I would best fit the character of Theseus (King Of Athens). I think this because he volunteered himself to be sent to defeat a beast in the hopes of ending "Human Tribute".

  9. Were supposed to learn that we should always listen to warnings&some times over whelming are self can lead to big mistakes.
In a way he did because he should have listened towhat he was being told.

If i was one of the characters i would be Icarus because most of the time i overwhelme myself&i tend to not listen to people when they warn me about sum thing.

  10. 1. I think we were supposed to learn that don't judge someone or something just because of what it is or looks like. Icarus payed the price in falling into the water because of the wings he had created that had melted by the sun. He had went to high into the sky whiched caused the wings to melt because they were made of wax and feathers. He tryed to help Daedalus keep the Minotaur into the Labyrinth which was a bad idea because since they did that they had to keep feeding it humans. If they had made the right decision they wouldn't have to keep feeding it humans. So becasue of Icarus we learned not to judge something by its cover.

  11. Achilles, ouch! He deserved to die! So every young boy (or girl for that matter) who doesnt do what they are told deserves death? Isnt that what being young is about? Making mistakes and learning from them?

    ReplyDelete
  12. Iammortal17-I never thought of it that way, but didnt he die because he didn't listen to his father? You think it was karma, huh?

    ReplyDelete
  13. yes i agree ms.hughes because everyone as adults also learns from ther mistake

    ReplyDelete
  14. I think that Icarus did deserve what he got because he didn't listen to a word his Father said to him.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Wow, Zeus, excellent points. So if you are like Theseus, how can we describe you?

    ReplyDelete
  16. Yes.His father gave him the rules before he took off on his trip not to fly there or there but did he listin no

    ReplyDelete
  17. 2. I do think that Icarus deserved what he got because he had mistreated something just because of it's looks. If he had treated the Minotaur better it wouldn't have turned out that way. (Ms. Hughes- but if he had just not listened to his father about anything including the Labyrinth he wouldn't have been thrown in there to begin with)

  18. 1.) What we are suppose to lean is that Icarus was like any other guy because a guy would want to enjoy the thrill of flying like the way Icarus did.
2.) I think didnt deserve to die because all he wanted to do is enjoy the only oppertunity he had of flying.
3.) I would say Icarus because I dont follow the rules the way they are givin to me I do it how I want to do it.

  19. We are supposed to learn that if someone gives you a warning about something u should take it into consideration. I believe that he didn't deserve it because no one deserves to die,but this teaches him to listen. I believe that i can be compared to Daedalus because of his self-confidence.

  20. i agree with ARIADNE on how icrus did try to experiment with things he wanted to do

    ReplyDelete
  21. We go throw the things we do so that we learn from are mistakes. In this Story Icarus had to learn his leason by losing his life. I think his father was very clear when he said"Stay away from the sun".

    ReplyDelete
  22. So how do you as young people know when you've gone too far? How do you avoid ending up like Icarus?!

    ReplyDelete
  23. 3. If I were to choose one of the characters in the story I think I would have to choose Icarus but just because the same way how he didn't listen to his father I feel the same way. I sometimes don't listen and it feels as if karma came back around to get me for what I did wrong. And also because the way he was peer presured into helping out his father with a mistake I feel like I have made many mistakes in the past that still effect my future.

    ReplyDelete
  24. It depends in the situation your to know when you have gone to far

    ReplyDelete
  25. If his father give him the permiss to do it then..he will do it,in not just that he would do it multiply of times until he has found his of mistake

    ReplyDelete
  26. Iammortal--great point. I had not thought about that. What do you guys think about that? Icarus listened to his dad and ended up in that situation--so (like my last question) how do you know when to trust advice from someone and when to ignore it?

    ReplyDelete
  27. Ms.Hughes you know when you've taken it to far when you've hurt people in your life by the descions you have made so to avoid ending up like Icarus You take the words that people tell you throughout your life and try to apply it to your life.

    ReplyDelete
  28. "i think we were supposed to learn that
dont do something you cant do if they tell you not to do it and you still go for it then thats when you learn fron your mistakes.
" i think he did deserve it because everyone makes bad decisions.
im artmis because she is a virgin goodess

    ReplyDelete
  29. @ARIADNE: but if he didn't do what his father wanted him to do such as messing with the Minotaur in the Labyrinth he wouldn't have been thrown in there which would have changed everything because he wouldn't have had to use the wings in the first place.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I think in the story i would have to be Icarus becasue i do sometimes not listen to things my parents tell me and by doing that the outcome is bad.

    ReplyDelete
  31. great question.well it depends on how much information that person gives you in order if you want to take their edvice or if you dont because everyone dont always know what they are talking about

    ReplyDelete
  32. i think i depends on the person like if it was your dad or someone with experiance thats been through the same things then yea

    ReplyDelete
  33. I feel as young people we knew we've gone to far after we've gone to far&are already paying the Concusses of what we've done or said. Some of us learn and some of us just keep making the same mistakes.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Us as young people know when we go to far is when we either get into trouble or we just realize or have that gut feeling that what we are doing isn't right.

    ReplyDelete
  35. @iammortal17:but while he got into the mess he could have backed his way out of that just going on about another route that wouldnt have got him killed

    ReplyDelete
  36. Ate2010 it is so very true what you said how some of us just keep making the same mistakes. and its sad to hear how people just dont know when to learn.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Achilles--So you think that we often repeat the mistakes of our parents?

    ReplyDelete
  38. 1) what you're suppose to larn from Icarucs is you should always listen. Whether it's a good situation or a bad situation you should always be listening. Cause you never know what might happen to wipe you out or not. Just in Icarus case he was melted by the sun.
    2) i dont think that he deserved that but hey he should have listened to what his dad was trying to tell him instead of being more exciting on flying which is not a big deal. But maybe it was because he apparantly flew his self right into the sun.
    3) i can say that i'm more like Icarus just that i listen to information no matter how exciting the situation is or how bad the situation i'm liostening.

    ReplyDelete
  39. yea at times if we don't take their advice then were most likely to do the same things

    ReplyDelete
  40. @ARIADNE: I guess... but you do have a good point. but then again it wouldn't look good because he already agreed to help his father

    ReplyDelete
  41. some of us kid of repeat the same mistakes our parents does but it's probably cause we have no direction to go down another path.

    ReplyDelete
  42. well i believe he did deserve the fact he didnt listen shows sumthing bad was going to happen noramally when i dont listen to my mother something bad tends to go wrong*

    ReplyDelete
  43. the lesson i think we should learn is the fact tht we are not always right and we have to take tht in precautious..i dont want to be any character they are all different from me if i cud pick someone it would be ariadne because she was so tricky i like being tricky sometimes

    ReplyDelete
  44. *idnt think more then second chances are fair ppl need to learn their lesson
