Theseus and Dionysius

How are these two Gods similar in their apporaches to human beings? How are they different? What do these two stories show us about the relationships between Gods and mortals in Ancient Greece?

  1. They are similar by wandering around in always frighting other people.they are differnt because when dionysius chased the crewman in they ran off broad he changed them into dolphins but when theseus went on his missions he was killing everyone who offer to do anything for him. They are all the same except some because all of the gods dont kill people that offer them something

  2. They both wandered around&where always killing some one or some thing. They were both differnt because Dionysius killed people when they didnt want to follow him or didnt respect him. On the other hand,Theseus killed the monsters he did to save his life. So they both killed for differnt reasons. Gods relationships with people were not so good,Gods i think found it very easy just to kill the people who turned on them or tryed to stand up for them selfs.

  3. I feel both of the Gods apporached the humans in a strong form. Like they are "all that" and how they are different was Dionysus looked liked any other normal person.thats why the people didnt relize he was a god untill after he changed into a lion and killed everyone except one on the ship and Theseus was stronger then another human in form and I think everyone knew he was a God becasue they all tried to kill him and all the times he killed someone,he was trying to protect himself. The relationships between the mortals and the Gods was very respectful. They feared the Gods in a way becasue they could do whatever they pleased.

  5. they are similar in a way because they werent noticed as gods at first. they are different because dionysius didnt really try to kill anyone and theseus did kill people that tried to kill him. this shows us that not all gods are treated the same or know the same.

  7. Athena--so the people respected the Gods. Was that mutual respect?

  8. Ariadne--good point. If you look back at the reading he was trying to give him a second chance Zeus said no. Do you think people deserve a second chance? Or is it important for us to make "an example" out of someone? If you let a person get away with something, won't everyone else start doing it?

  9. i agree with ARIADNE AND @ATE2010 CAUSE SOME GODS ARE THE SAME WHERE THEY CAUSE PROBLEMS SUCH AS CHEAT AND KILL AND THEIR ARE THE OTHER KINDS WHO STAY OUT OF THE DRAMA AND ARE NOT REALLY TALKED ABOUT IN STORIES

  10. These two gods are similar in human beings because they actually care about being insulted. they are different because they handle things through vilolence which isn't fare because mortals can't do anything about it to stop them. to me there is no relationship between mortals and gods.

  11. minos i agree they're similar to humans because they have feelings of anger and other stuff just like humans but one didnt try to kill on purpose the other person i dont know what he was doing but it seems that he meant to kill in brutal way.

these two gods are similar because they are both wandering and there's no clue or fact what they are wandering for so it's pointless....they are different because their intentions are not the same dionysus wandered trying to teach what he knew and theseus wandered tryna reach athens....the relationships between gods and mortals show that god use their power against mortals to prove they are much stronger..in my opinion

  13. @Athena E: What is "all that" to you?

  14. Ms.Hughes- No i dont think it was mutual. The Gods just used them, played around with them for there enjoyment.

  15. yes i think people do deserve a second chance cause bcause if zeus gave somebody a second chance an not the other person then it breaks trust amongst and how your viewed

    ReplyDelete
  16. @Ms.Hughes:well yes i believe everyone should get a second chance because i feel that the first time u did it and you made a mistake okay try again in you might just be good at it.....or if u made a huge mistake that u need to be punish for then yes you need a second chance in once other people start they will learn the hard way to

  17. the people that to me are similar are Dionysus and Theseus because they both wander and endured some type of conflict within there journey

  18. yes, people do deserve a second chance because someone can always change

  19. @ Iamimmortal17. they thought they could do whatever they wanted just becasue they had powers. thats not fair. they thought they owned everyone

    ReplyDelete
  20. Hm, so do people stop respecting you if you give second chances?

    ReplyDelete
  21. i agree with Athena E cause the gods did use them and always make it seem like they didn't just for their enjoyment

of course ms.huges ppl deserve a second chance i think in all of our lives we will experince a time where we will do something we never thought we'll do simply because we are not perfect so we do deserve a second chance

  23. @immortal17--someone can always change? Really, do you think that the Greeks beleived that???

  25. i agree with iammortal17 people should be given a second chance. its only fair. becasue you never know what the outcome might be.

  27. Aethra- I think the two Gods are similar in human because they may havent look like gods but some people know that they were god. They were same what different to me because in the first story they killed both gods . But an the other story he was going around killing people that he heard about that does the wrong things to people .

  28. @Athena E: Well if they had the powers might as well use them for something. i do agree with you that it was a bit bogus but you also have to look at from their point of view as well.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I think they are similar because they both want respect from the people, and if they dont get respect they kill them.like when one of the helmsman realized that only a god could be responsible. And he told his crew that they should free dionysus and beg for forginess. And dionysus let that man go and the rest were changed into dolphins.

  30. @Athena E: I agree with myself as well.

  31. @Ms.Hughes:like why would they just stop resepcting you like you saved their life or you could have just let them die in just go on about your business in kill someone else like u just did

    ReplyDelete
  32. Welcome Poseidon. That's a really good point. A question about respect:

Is it bettered to be respected or feared? Can you be respected without being feared? Or do people have to be a little afraid of you to respect you?

    ReplyDelete
  33. @iammortal. i agree they should of used it for something. but for something good.in my opinon. and could you please explain there point of view?

    ReplyDelete
  34. @Athena E: They had nothing to do in acient greece that is why they told stories AKA myths. they were a bit bored im guessing.

  35. MSWANDERER1 SAID:

in ancient greece wy is it in these myths humans don't recognize gods i know you said because they come in human form but if they're such powerful gods why thy are not respected and honored like how they is in the world?

    ReplyDelete
  36. I think people should respect you. not fear you. becasue if they fear you they will never fully respect you because they will always be thinking if i do something wrong against this person something will happen to me

    ReplyDelete
  37. Aethra Said-
@Poseidon081- Do you think he was going to follow his orders when he told him to free Dionysus ?

    ReplyDelete
  38. @iammortal. they were bored and they also neeeded a way to tell how things came to be.

    ReplyDelete
  39. they both kill because they are both powerful

    ReplyDelete
  40. @Ms.Hughes question, I think the people should be a little scared of me to respect me because i have the power to do anything i want if the people dont respect me as a god.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Their alike because both of them continuously wander around and find some sort of trouble to get into. Their different because Theseus likes do more kill his victims and Dionysius just likes to torture them by turning them into things like animals.
